Movies With Cultural Element

Hi, everyone! In this article, I would like to talk about my favorite movies that have cultural and social value elements in it. There are two movies that I already prepared, the first one is a malay movie and the second one is a movie with chinese background. Let's get into it, shall we?

✦ Abang Adik

Abang Adik or if it's translated to English it'll become Big Brother and Little Brother. Abang Adik is a crime and drama movie that ready to bring you to tears. Just as the title of the movie said, this movie revolving around siblings that lived in the middle of a slump in Malaysia. Even worst, the big brother doesn't have an ID card as a sign of local residence of Malaysia due to his house got burnt down when he was little. Without an ID, the police could thought that the big brother is an illegal immigrant and will deport him to wherever he came from. This issue has exist in Malaysia since long time ago and now the government of Malaysia is acting more strict than before and taking this issue seriously. The little brother also doesn't have an ID but he still got his birth certificate and there's a woman that ready to help them to make an ID so that they wouldn't have to run from the police anymore.

The big brother is deaf and a worker in the local market while the little brother is doing some illegal or dangerous work that always made the big brother worry. But their relationship with each other is so good, the little brother always cling onto his big brother and so is the big brother, he swore that he'll always loved him. The climax in this movie is when the little brother accidentally killed the woman that wanted to help him and his big brother and made her in a critical condition. The little brother panicked and as always, he'll run to his big brother. Both of them began a journey to run away from the authorities. But the big brother knew that this is wrong. He's planning to left his little brother but he failed several times until they finally settled somewhere far away. They both fell asleep then in the morning, the little brother wakes up but he didn't find his big brother anywhere. The little brother search everywhere but he couldn't find him, he was feeling hungry and so he eat at a food stall. But to his surprise, he saw his big brother on the TV, his big brother gave himself away to the police. The little brother felt so guilty and ran after his big brother. He promised to do better for his big brother and collect money so that they could live in peace.

✦ Kung Fu Panda

Who doesn't know about this movie? Kung Fu Panda is a comedy movie with the main character, Po, which is a panda. There are so many sequels of this movie and all of them are pretty fun to watch. The whole movie revolving around Chinese culture. The clothing, the animals, and the foods. The movie also includes some materials that are attached to Chinese culture. Such as, Jade. Jade quartz has been displayed several times in the movie in the form of weapon. In China particularly, jade is considered a symbol of purity, grace and moral integrity.

From the castles to the houses, all of them are showing traditional building of China. The Jade Palace shows so many elements of Chinese culture. From the roof of the outside building to the insides of the palace. The floor of The Jade Palace made from jade quartz and the relics that were surrounding the palace is a dragon as a symbol of The Dragon Warrior in Kung Fu Panda. Historically, the Chinese dragon was associated with the emperor of China and used as a symbol to represent imperial power. Hence the reason why The Jade Palace is surrounded by dragon relics. The food that were mostly shown in this movie was also associated with China. Po always eat dumplings, which is most experts believe that dumplings were invented by Zhang Zhongjing, a Chinese medicine practitioner who lived in the Eastern Han Dynasty, the second imperial dynasty of China that lasted from 206 BC to 220 AD. Po always eats dumplings that were cooked by his father, Ping. There are so many things that sticks with Chinese culture that were showed in this movies and I really recommend this serial since I liked it very much!

Makassar International Writers Festival 2024

Hello, everyone! We finally meet again after a quite long time and for today i'm bringing you guys together in the event for all writers and those who enjoyed reading in "Makassar International Writers Festival 2024!". As for what the title of the event said, this event served a bunch of literature works from all around the globe.
